An angling- and boating-free lake that has been set aside for conservation, with low islands for ground-nesting birds. Most of the periphery has scrub and trees along the shoreline, but the lake can be viewed from a large hide in the south west corner and a viewing screen on the north bank.
The lake is particularly attractive to wildfowl and in winter it is the best site for Goldeneye and holds good numbers of Pochard, Tufted Duck and Gadwall. In summer, the islands provide a breeding site for Tufted Duck, Black-headed Gulls, Common Terns and Oystercatcher. In spring and autumn, Common Sandpiper and, occasionally, Little Ringed Plover may be seen. It has also proved attractive to passing Arctic and Black Terns.
