Heron’s Water

One of the smaller lakes, Heron’s Water is surrounded by woodland and difficult to watch as there is no easy access to the lake edge. Probably because it is so enclosed, it is relatively unattractive to wildfowl. Small numbers of Mallard, Teal and Gadwall are usually present in the winter months and Grey Herons often perch in the surrounding trees. Kingfishers may be heard and seen at any time of year. The woodland is relatively young Willow, Oak and Alder, in which the commoner species such as Blackcap, Chiffchaff and Song Thrush breed.
